First Gold

Chinese New Year

Come celebrate the Chinese New Year with us! Deadwood’s Chinatown, at the end of Main Street, was home to hundreds of Chinese immigrants during the height of the gold rush.

We’ll honor that heritage with a Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2024, at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center.

Local author Robin Carmody will read from her book, “But Nana … Where Was Deadwood’s Chinatown?” to K-6 grade students, and participants will enjoy Chinese food, a red envelope ceremony, and creating a project to take home.

It is free to attend, but reservations are required. To make a reservation, call 605-578-1657 or visit https://www.deadwoodhistory.com/event/285-chinese-new-year.html
